2017 will mark the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl, America’s annual war between the best two football teams in the country. Net income for Coca Cola is running a few billion dollars a year ahead of its bitter rival, Pepsi Cola. Recent news reports say that China has outdone the USA in rankings for the world’s fastest supercomputers; but America smashed China in the gold medals at Rio. Competition is built into the American way of life. But is it the best way to live? When we perceive the world as a football game—as a competition to beat others so we can be the best and biggest—is there a human cost that all of us pay? “China Love You” is a book written by two prominent businesspeople, one from America, and one from China. It tells the story of how both of them came across the same ancient book from Asia—the Diamond Cutter Sutra—in their early years, and used its wisdom to build two highly successful companies, one in New York and one in Beijing. Later, they met each other working on a business collaboration, and became close friends. In this book, they help all of us understand the differences between China and America, and give some revolutionary suggestions about how the two countries can work together, each helping the other to become more successful than ever before. What could the world be, if the two biggest economies made it their goal to make each other successful? And what will happen if we keep up the grand football game What will happen to our children and our planet, if there is a second Cold War, and it goes bad? China Love You offers some solutions that could make the difference, for all of us.

The title alone says a lot: "China Love You" . It is a country name taken as a collective, implying that billions of people Love You. The most beautiful learning I took away from this book is about how America's name is translated in Chinese. America's name in Chinese means "The Beautiful Land." This should be taught in every school. This is exactly the mindset we need today in these times of global uncertainty. Don't expect another one of those books that provide you with some convoluted arguments with graphs and statistics showing you how competition and ruthless competitive policies against other countries are necessary. China Love You goes into a completely different territory and calls for collaboration, cooperation, sharing, and common vision. It's steeped into the fundamental idea that what we give to others first comes back to us. Prosperity can only be achieved together in a spirit of global understanding and sharing. This is how we will be able to face the current environmental crisis and poverty on a global scale. The world is facing unprecedented challenges. We will not resolve them by using the same mindset that caused these crises. We can only solve them by understanding deep inside our heart that what I want for myself, I need to give it to others first. What makes this book really crucial is that it offers a blueprint about how two major superpowers on this planet can unite and work together. We need wisdom not more competition. That's what this book offers. It is written by two experts who have a profound understanding about global relations and cultural respect for each other. There is so much that our global leaders, decision makers and business practitioners could learn from this book.

China Love You The Death of Global Competition eBook Geshe Michael Roach Dr Eric Wu Reviews

As a friend of the authors, I had been asked to proofread this book, so I was able to read it before it came out. I have a lot of Chinese friends, but much of my information about their culture had been based on seeing them through American eyes. We have different values and different ways of doing things, and this book delves into the question of where, from a historical point of view, these differences come from. For example, we value the individual thinker and they are more inclined to work as a group—which is better? I never really thought about it before, but both sides have valid reasons, and if we understand more about them, we can learn how to work together so that we both benefit.

Then they take the issues and look at them in view of the ancient philosophies—Buddhist and traditional Chinese—that they are both masters of. This gives a window into unique and creative ways to resolve differences.

I enjoyed reading the book, and I feel that it contains a lot of valuable information that I have been using since then in my everyday interactions with Chinese colleagues in the few months since I was able to read it. Now that it’s out, I’ll probably read it again.
